Computer science in the Anthropocene
Computer science in the Anthropocene

The term Anthropocene reflects the geological scale of human impacts on the Earth system and provides a framework to understand the global changes that we face: climate change, loss of biodiversity... How should computer science evolve to answer this ecological emergency? The SIA project aims to approach, in an interdisciplinary manner, this complex and controversial question, which requires an in-depth understanding of the interplay between computer science, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), society and the environment. The main objectives are: 1) contributing to the state of the art on the environmental impacts of ICT; 2) studying how computer science fits into this equation, through the lens of teaching; and 3) explore, at a local scale, the possibility to deploy frugal, or even low tech, alternatives to existing digital systems, in a participatory manner
