The University of Bordeaux's Museum of Ethnography (MEB) presents a new exhibition entitled "3D Textile(s): how to improve the dissemination and conservation of heritage items?" which follows on from the Material* (Microgeometry Approach of Texture Reproduction for Artistic Legacy ) funded by the ANR (National research Agency) and is the result of the work done by two Inria project teams from the Bordeaux-South-West and Grenoble-Rhône-Alpes centres. The exhibition runs from 1 October 2019 to 29 May 2020.

How do digital technologies help us to know, study and promote cultural heritage? How do social sciences and "hard" sciences work together to preserve it?

The most advanced research in optics, data processing and applied mathematics has been harnessed by human and social sciences along with heritage practices in this exhibition that presents the progress made by ongoing research and the questions it raises. The aim of the programme is to achieve a faithful digitisation of the appearance of fragile fabrics and to print them in 3D.  

A number of ancient Asian textile items taken from the MEB's collections, never before put on display, will be presented to the public on this occasion.

This multidisciplinary project involves all the Inria Bordeaux-South-West and Grenoble-Rhône-Alpes research centres (represented by the Manao and Maverick) project teams, the Institut d'Optique d'Aquitaine, the MEB and a company, Océ Print technologie .

From Monday to Thursday from 2 to 6 pm. Friday from 10 am to 12.

The museum is closed at the weekends and on public holidays.
